Michelle Kennedy

Specialist Neurological Physiotherapist and Specialist in Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES)

Michelle is a Specialist Neurological Physiotherapist with over twenty years’ experience. She graduated from Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh in 2002 with an MSc Physiotherapy and from Curtin University (Australia) with an MPhil in Physiotherapy exploring high-level mobility and running training in acquired brain injury. She also holds postgraduate diplomas in Neurological Rehabilitation and Teaching in Higher Education.

Michelle has a wide range of clinical experience having worked in NHS Scotland and NHS England. After specialising in neurological rehabilitation Michelle worked for several years at Royal Perth Hospital in Australia and then TIRR Memorial Hermann in Houston, Texas. Michelle has experience in the treatment and management of a range complex neurological conditions including traumatic brain injury, stroke, spinal cord injury, Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, concussion, cerebral palsy and vestibular conditions.

Michelle’s approach to treatment focuses on detailed assessment of impairments and treating with a range of neurological approaches such as task-specific practice, exercise, and facilitation. Michelle is advanced Bobath trained and APPI trained in neurological Pilates. Alongside clinical practice Michelle also worked for several years at Robert Gordon University (RGU) teaching the neurology program to physiotherapy students and in clinical practice at the RGU Physiotherapy Clinic and RGU gait lab assessing individuals with complex walking patterns including children with cerebral palsy. She continues to enjoy mentoring clinical skill development in students and graduates.

Outside work Michelle enjoys time with friends and family, yoga, Pilates and running.
